What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession so you don’t need a GP referral to consult our clinic. We are a recognized and regulated profession. The General Chiropractic Council is the governing body.
Chiropractic is very scientific and concerns itself with joint and body bio mechanic. By normalizing this within the body it allows the body to function properly. Restrictions within joints affects nerve supply which in turn can affect how muscles, ligaments and versa function.
Chiropractors are highly skilled and trained musculoskeletal specialists who are qualified to examine, diagnose, treat and advise on a large number of aliments throughout the entire body. (If you are unsure if Chiropractic can help, just call us to find out more) Chiropractic is 4 Year BSc degree course. You can only call yourself a Chiropractor if you have this degree.
The largest misconception about Chiropractic is that we just treat backs, this isn’t so! From the joints of your little toe right through the entire body (not forgetting your organs) to the plates of your skull, Chiropractic can help with it all.
How it works…
For your body to correct and heal a problem it must firstly recognise there is one, only once it does this will it initiate a healing response. If your body is unable to do this it will not heal and problems will become reoccurring, causing poor health and suffering.
Chiropractors realign (adjustments) joints and muscles (subluxations) which can then allow the body to heal properly. We work with your body’s inbuilt healing process (Innate intelligence) while treating the area of complaint. Inside every one of us, our body repairs, regenerates and recovers from the stresses and strains of everyday living on a daily basis (the doctor within). Without these processes, our bodies become less healthy and then disease arises (symptoms and suffering).
Your nervous system (brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves) is the communication pathway which allows your body to communicate with itself so you can coordinate and function properly. Your body’s healing response is also controlled by your nervous system. If there is a break down in this communication anywhere in your body you will experience problems and therefore symptoms.
What is a Subluxation?
The Subluxation is the Chiropractic term for the misalignment within the body and is what Chiropractors diagnose and treat.
The Subluxation can exist within joints and muscles (best described as an area of tightness) and can cause local pain and discomfort because of tissue compression and stretch, as well as radiated pain.
Subluxations also interfere with how nerves work. They prevent some messages from the body getting to the brain about tissue damage, joint position and inflammation, as well as from your brain to your body (miscommunication). If your brain doesn’t receive this information then it won’t be able to heal you.
The body reacts or compensates for these subluxations leading to tension in the whole body as well as muscular weakness or tightness, altered posture and biomechanics. These areas are then vulnerable to injury. Correction of these subluxations allows the body to be balanced again, taking pressure off nerves allowing good communication between your body, which then relieves symptoms and suffering.
What is an adjustment?
The adjustment is the Chiropractic term for the correction of the Subluxation. The adjustment is made with a very specific high speed, low amplitude trust with a direction of correction using minimal pressure where possible.
The Chiropractor may use their hands for this but may also use various different chiropractic adjusting tools (see techniques). The adjustments correct the misalignment of the joint and muscle, relieving pain and symptoms, but also restoring the nerves to their full working capacity, which allows the body the detect and heal tissue damage.
Being in good health is much more than being free of symptoms. Symptoms are the bodies warning lights and usually by this time things have been ongoing in your body long before you felt any problems.
